Preschool Applications for the 2020-21 school year will continue to be processed and families contacted by phone or email as they are being processed.

However, due to school closures, for new applications, families are encouraged to submit the confidential application, birth certificate, and income verification pieces electronically by scan or photo to:

If a family can not submit a new application electronically, a message can be left at the Preschool Center at 540-459-0724 or 540-459-4121. Messages will be checked regularly and assistance provided, as needed.
All Shenandoah County Public Schools Accredited for 2018!
Official Virginia Department of Education data show that all nine Shenandoah County Public Schools earned accreditation for the 2018-19 School Year. This is the first time in five years that all schools are accredited. Last year, two of the Divisions’ schools, WW Robinson Elementary and North Fork Middle School, had their accreditation denied. Shenandoah County Schools Superintendent, Dr. Mark Johnston notes, “Everyone is committed to continuous improvement. That includes our excellent teachers and administrators. It takes all of us working hand-in-hand to continually ensure high quality, rigorous instruction for all of our students.”

The standards used to determine accreditation changed this year to reflect more than just Virginia Standards of Learning Tests, though test results remain a major factor. In addition, instead of just using pass rates, divisions across Virginia receive some credit for students who improve on their past performance in reading and mathematics even if they may not pass the test. WW Robinson and North Fork Middle Schools had among the highest improvements in the division. Another factor cited by Johnston was the substantive division-wide improvement of students with disabilities and students who are English Language (EL) learners. Improvement of these groups was in contradiction to Virginia results that saw performance of these student groups fall statewide.

Johnston also notes, “Achieving accreditation for all of our schools is no small feat. So many variables with the accreditation system are challenging to navigate. For example, the new accreditation system includes individual students who may count in multiple groups such as a single student who may fail a single grade level reading test but who is a member of several groups used to determine accreditation such as EL, Hispanic, and Economically Disadvantaged. Our teachers and administrators have a difficult job but are vigilant in ensuring our students are successful.”

Johnston concluded, “Today is a proud day in Shenandoah County Public Schools, and we should pause and celebrate the success of our students and thank our teachers, administrators, and community for their support of public education!”
