When children experience traumatic events, it can have lasting effects on their mental health and wellbeing. These events are called Adverse Childhood Experiences, or ACEs. For our next SCPS Parent Academy, we will be partnering with Northwestern Community Services Board to offer a virtual ACES training on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, from 6 - 7:30 p.m. The training is open to parents, community members, and staff.

Empowering and Equipping Parents to Engage in Their Child’s Learning As part of the Empower 2024 Strategic Plan, Shenandoah County Public Schools (SCPS) has committed to “engaging with parents and community partners to enable students to be emotionally ready to access their learning”. As part of this initiative, the Shenandoah County Public Schools, has created the SCPS Parent Academy. “There is a strong link with student success and well-being to the level and extent of parental involvement,” says Dr. Johnston. The academy will offer learning opportunities on various topics to help educate and inform parents and guardians so they can support their child’s health, well-being, and ability to learn.
