Attendance Awareness

School attendance is essential to academic success. Research shows that missing as little as two days every month can have a big impact on students. Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to learn as well as connect to peers and their teachers. Help your students build good attendance habits and make getting to school on time every day a top priority.

SCPS Parent Academy

Empowering and Equipping Parents to Engage in Their Child’s Learning Shenandoah County Public Schools is committed to engaging with parents and community members to help support students’ learning. As part of this initiative, Shenandoah County Public Schools created the SCPS Parent Academy.

SCPS Parent Academy was established in 2020, however, due to the COVID pandemic, it was concentrated primarily on sharing resources and information. During the 2021-22 school year, we offered in-person events, live webinars, and prerecorded videos. The videos are available on our SCPS Parent Academy webpage, and we will reshare some of those resources throughout the year.

Based on feedback from the community, we recognized the need for more opportunities for Q&A and discussion, so we adapted our events this year to the Community Chat format. Each chat will focus on a specific topic. SCPS staff will give a short 5-10 minute presentation, followed by Q&A and discussion. These events are intended to be informal and encourage conversation, rather than a long, formal presentation.
